10 Action Steps To Shift Your Focus

actionplan

You had the idea, you made the plan, now you need to take action!

Growing a business is not easy, so I’d like to share with you a few essential action steps that you can implement today to start moving your business forward:

  1. Take care of yourself – Create a system for self-care that works for you. If it is 10 minute meditation in the morning or prayer make sure you make it a ritual. Create a workout plan that fits you, and commit to it throughout the week, I suggest you visit https://flexmastergeneral.com to get the best workout programs.
  2. Focus on being positive – Appreciate what you have and stop complaining. Look at the glass half full. You will be able to deal with life and its challenges better with the right attitude. Besides the fact that nobody wants to be around a negative person.
  3. Write down what you need to accomplish for the day – I do this the night before. Make sure you look at it after your self-care routine and have it with you all day so you can check off your progress.
  4. Find your mantra – Pick something that inspires you and write it down where you can see it all day. Do this right away and read it out loud every morning night and anytime you can in between. I say The universe has my back and the universe will give me anything I ask for. Sounds weird? Just do it and see what happens!
  5. Find your spark – When you are home relaxing at some point at night, think about what you’re passionate about.Think about different ways you can use your unique talent and gifts.
  6. Write down your obstacles – What are the things that are stopping you from reaching your goals? Think about each one and write a plan of how you can overcome them.
  7. Don’t procrastinate – Get a jump-start on your day once you are sitting at your desk and don’t waste time on emails or social media or small talk until you put a productive hour of work in.
  8. Start tracking your day – Write down what you are doing during the day and keep track of it on a weekly basis. At the end of the week evaluate how you spent your time. See where you can be more productive and then do the same the following week until you implement some changes.
  9. Read a new book a month – You are what you read and what you focus on. Read personal development books and read books specifically on goals and action plans. Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is a must.
  10. Take action –  Don’t just affirm and visualize and do nothing. Take any action required to bring your goal into fruition. Follow your intuition, new ideas and opportunities that present themselves, and accept help from other people.

Are you ready to succeed? They say that vision without action is merely a dream.

Comments or questions are always welcome…leave them below! Want my Action Plan Template? Get it HERE.

12 Steps to Building A Fabulous Personal Brand

Building a personal brand is something that you work on on different levels. It genuinely begins with knowing yourself better and knowing what you stand for. You then need to understand what you want to communicate to your target audience.

A personal brand is a vision and when you speak about your brand, it should always become about your message.

Here are 12 Steps to consider while building a fabulous personal brand:

1: Determine your unique value proposition

Stop. Take a minute and spend some time thinking about what makes you different. Think about your strengths, your passions, and your goals. Know who you are -most importantly, who you are not.

2: Find out how others see you

Ask trusted colleagues, co-workers, and friends for 3-5 adjectives they would use to describe you. Ask specifically: In which areas do they view you as “irreplaceable?” What are you good at? What are your strengths? Use these adjectives in your marketing copy.

3: Identify your goals

Where would you like to be in 30 days ? One year? Five years? Defining your goals helps you craft a message that helps you reach your goals.

4: Identify your target audience

Just like coffee-deals site knows that their target audience is coffee drinkers, you need to understand who will be receiving your message. This will help you master your message and to deliver it in the right places.

5: Reevaluate your priorities

As an independent business owner, woman, spouse, mother…you’re probably used to putting yourself last. While you still want to be loyal to your clients, colleagues and family, please remember to be loyal to yourself, first.

6: Pay attention to the details

Everything you do contributes to your personal brand. Once you’ve defined your brand, make sure that the way you dress, your body language, how you interact with others, the emails you write are all consistent with your brand message.

7: Update your resume

Go through your resume to determine if it resonates with your brand and that it accurately defines who you are, and is in alignment with both your short and long-term goals.

8: Become a social networker

If you haven’t already done so, set up accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and ask those in your target audience to follow and subscribe to your pages. Make sure you update on a regular basis. Make sure your updates resonates your message.

9: Build your own website

That’s right. Your website should be about you. It should highlight your professional accomplishments, your skill set and your knowledge, what you stand for, and your value. Make it about you, not your company or clients.

10: Blog

Blogging makes it easier than ever to promote yourself to your target audience. Make the commitment to posting 1-3 times a week on topics that your audience will find interesting and educational. These posts should highlight your skills and experience.

11: Get published

Write the book. Let me write that again: Write a book! Also, contribute to industry publications and update the content on your site. Being published is a great way to promote yourself as an expert in your field.

12: Pound the Pavement and Go Offline

Make sure that you are promoting your brand in person as well as you are online. Join and participate in industry groups, give talks at conferences, or lead a project that showcases your unique talents.

Self-promotion is an extremely important part of building your brand (if no one knows of your accomplishments or the company you work for, then how are they going to do business with you?), the biggest factor that separates you personal branding from shameless self-promotion is value.

Do You Have The Guts To Succeed?

The one common thing all entrepreneurs have is guts. Plain and simple. If that’s too harsh for you I apologize, but it is the absolute truth. As an entrepreneur, you will have to develop a thick skin. For those of you that take things literally, what I mean is you need a certain attitude. You can’t worry about what anyone else thinks, you just have to go out and get it done.
How do you develop that? You have to get out there and be uncomfortable. You have to do things that other people aren’t willing to do.
Here are some things that can help you determine if you have this ability. You need to think about and do these on a regular basis:
  • You must use the G.O.Y.A theory: Every single day – If it is to be it’s up to me is an entrepreneur’s motto. So we have to “Get Up Off Our Assess” (or Anatomy if you like that better) and make stuff happen!
  • You Have To Be Bad Before You Can Be Good: You will make mistakes, believe me, I have made my share, but I promise you that you will ultimately get better. Just keep going, don’t stop. Develop that muscle and don’t even pause when you make a mistake just keep going.
  • Do The Things You Fear The Most: You will have to get out there and connect with people. You will have to make phone calls and follow-up calls. We have to do those things because in the long run it is what is going to help our business grow.
  • Be A Leader: A true leader is acting like one when nobody else is following you yet. Walk, talk and act like the person you want to become.
  • Face Your Challenges: We all have things that are thrown at us that seem insurmountable at times. It is how you react to those challenges that show what you are made of. The more challenged you are, the more you need to welcome that distraction and keep going.
  • StayPositive – When everything is going wrong around you and you feel like nothing is ever going to happen you must stay focused. Nobody will every follow a negative cry baby. It is completely within your power to stay positive when people are around you and even when they are not.

All of us have the choice to work through our obstacles and grow in the process, or give up and let it beat you. When you force yourself to push through it, you become stronger. When you can do this, you have something special that separate’s you from the pack.

Your passion will cause you to persevere and give you the stamina and nerve you need to keep on going.

You Can Succeed in Direct Sales

zig_ziglar_success_occurs_when_opportunity_meets_preparation

No problem is insurmountable. With a little courage, teamwork and determination a person can overcome anything. – B. Dodge

No one would pretend that direct sales is easy. If it were, more people would be doing it. It’s commonly said that for every one person who says ‘Yes!’, there are nine who say ‘No!’. If you need to find five people a day to say ‘Yes!’, you will have to talk to fifty people a day.

You need energy, stamina and you need to be able to be as bright and cheerful at six o’ clock at night as you are at eight o’ clock the following morning. If you can’t rise above the trials and tribulations that afflict us all, both in private and in work life, don’t consider a full-time career in direct sales. When I decided to join a direct sales company 18 years ago, what really attracted me was the ability to make my schedule, have qualified people train me and then I was able to find people better than me to build a business with. That was worth all the trials and tribulations I had to go through to make a six figure income.

The truth is building a business isn’t as hard in network marketing as people make it seem. There are systems in place to follow. The challenge is that people over analyze everything and they just don’t follow the system. I had blind faith. I knew I didn’t know anything, so I was extremely coachable. You can be successful in direct sales to if you follow the system that is presented to you and keep these simple things in mind:

  1. Set a schedule and stick to it – Get a planner that allows you to integrate all areas of your life in it so you have everything with you at all times.
  2. Find a mentor – In your company and a coach outside of your company. You need non biased views and ideas in my opinion in order to succeed faster. It is well worth the investment in the long run.
  3. Be a crusader – Own your own products and show potential customers you believe in them.
  4. Stop making excuses – Invest the time you need to and just get it done.
  5. Utilize the direct sales model – Do not reinvent the wheel. Follow the model that has already been proven to work.
  6. Master your craft- Know everything you need to know about your products and service and duplicate your self by training other’s.
  7. Set up a solid referral system – Once you have learned to use it and you are a pro at getting referrals, make sure you teach it to your associates.
  8. Recognize your team –  Big and small accomplishments are important to reward your team for. Everybody has a sign on them that says “make me feel special.”
  9. Have a system for recruiting – Know the numbers. How many people do you have to  invite to look at your opportunity daily to recruit 1 per week?
  10. Follow a marketing plan – Spin multiple plates at all times.  Face to face prospecting, internet marketing, advertising, vendor events and workshops.

When you stop over thinking it and follow the system in place, you can become a master at direct sales!

Pick Your Battles

together

I wanted to share this with you today from the book “Team Work Makes The Dream,” work by John Maxwell.

I keep it by my couch where I sit early in the morning and later in the evening. I go back to it often and read a chapter or two at least once a week.

I think this is so crucial to understand what John wrote about team work and picking your battles for all the entrepreneur’s reading this right now. It truly takes a village, a team around you to make it happen. Individuals who you can collaborate with, like minded people who show you support, and people who can help your vision become a reality.

John Maxwell said “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is a process, working together is a success.”

  1. Winning is often the battle and there are times in the life of every team player when he or she needs to fight. But if you fight all the time, you can wear yourself out. That’s why it is important to pick your battles.
  2. To gain a better perspective of when to fight back and when to sacrifice yourself, practice the following disciplines.
  3. Spend Time with People Who Are Different from You – That helps you to appreciate and understand how others think and work. You will be less likely to judge others.
  4. In Matters of Personal Preference or Taste, Give In – Keep the main things the main thing. If you don’t save yourself for what really matters, you’ll wear yourself out.
  5. Don’t Take Things Personally – Always remember, hurting people hurt people. They are also easily hurt by others.
  6. Practice 101 Percent Principal – Whenever possible, find the 1 percent you do agree on in a difficult  situation, and give 100 percent of your effort.
  7. Be a Servant Leader – If your mindset is to serve rather than be served, you will likely encounter less conflict.

Remember, “Together We Can Do The Impossible.”

Our Choices Determine Our Direction

Tough Decisions Ahead Road Sign

I was talking to a good friend about life and choices yesterday. Sometimes you need that kind of a conversation to get clarity on your situation and sometimes adjust your sails and correct the direction your life is headed. There is no mistake that our lives are a product of choices we have made over time. The challenge is that because these choices we make on a daily basis don’t affect our lives immediately, we don’t give it much thought.

The reality is it is those little choices we make every single day along the way that impact our lives the most. I admit I have certainly made poor choices in my lifetime. I still do. When I started to really think about it, I thought about why I made those choices? When we make choices are they for us or are we making them based on what we think we should do? Did we make them because we were afraid of what people would think? Or did we make those choices because at the time we though we had to?

Before you can start to make better choices you have to realize that our choices are entirely our own. We all live with the consequences of our choices. To be happy and move on we can’t regret those choices and we can’t go back to change them. What we can do is learn from those choices and make better ones moving forward. The good news is, it is not where you came from that is important, it is where you are going!

We can all make the choice to change our lives any time we want to. It doesn’t matter if we are younger or older believe it or not.  It was hard for me to swallow that too.

If you are having a difficult time making a difficult choice consult with a friend who understands and might have experienced something similar. Start trusting your instincts a little more often. If it feels bad, like you shouldn’t do it, then don’t! I personally struggle with that daily.

Here are some things to consider:

  1. Accept your situation, but change your outlook.
  2. Accept what happened, but change your path.
  3. Accept the choices you’ve made, make better choices moving forward.
  4. Accept people that have hurt you,  but change the people you hang around with.
  5. Accept and love yourself, but never stop learning or changing.

Some circumstances and choices we could never change, but always remember you can always change what you can simply no longer accept. Sometimes all it takes is a little help from your friends!

Every Entrepreneur Must Master The Art of Selling

sales-balloons_20140710161411_20140715162023

If you can’t sell yourself, your ideas, your product or service, you will not stay in business. Selling is an essential skill every entrepreneur must master. Starting from the very first day you launch your business you are selling. The overall success of your business actually depends on your ability to sell. Fortunately there are many books, workshops and sales coaches that can help you. The first book on sales that I read a long time ago was How to Master the Art of Selling by Tom Hopkins.

It’s quite easy to start a business. All you need to do is have a cool idea, a product or service to “sell” that idea and finish it off with a business card, right? Wrong. The problem is that this alone does not guarantee your business success. Growing and sustaining a business that provides income that you can live on is the challenge.

Entrepreneurs need to learn sales skills. You can have the best makeup, jewelry, lotion, or be the best coach there is, but how do you make money? Remember the movie “Field Of Dreams” with Kevin Costner? The line was “If you build it they will come.” Well, ladies, I am here to tell you that if you come up with an awesome simply amazing product, they do not just come! Ever! It takes marketing and selling, both of yourself and of your product or service, to bring in the crowd. Do you see how the word selling is the common thread, here? If you do not sell your product or service you do not make money. It will never sell itself and that just how it goes.

Every entrepreneur needs practical sales skills! They have to learn simple sales tools and strategies in order to grow and succeed in business. I have witnessed many great products developed with an incredible passion fail because there wasn’t enough money coming in to sustain the business.

The good news is that anyone can learn sales skills. Almost nobody is born a great sales person. On the contrary, the case is usually that the most creative people who established the best products have no sales skills at all! Everyone just needs to change their mindset about what selling is. My advice is, take sales classes. Make sure you read books on selling, and yes, even hire a sales coach. I promise, if you do these things and you have a great product or service you believe in, you will see your business not only survive, but grow and thrive!

Learn to Collaborate for Better Business Results

Whatever your product or service is your business is driven by referrals. So often I watch people network and try to get an appointment with another business owner to share information about their business and all I hear is “I”, “Me”, “I need”. There is no I in TEAM guys.

People want to hear about what’s in it for them. What they’re thinking when you are talking to them is that it all sounds great but, “what’s in it for me?”

I am approached countless times a week to come to a meeting, a party or have coffee to hear about what the other person wants me to know about their business. I can count on one hand how many times I am asked to meet to see how we can help one another’s business. I am a firm believer that giving should always come first. However, there comes a point where you have to take a stand and say if you want my help and my time I’d like you to hear about what I do to see if there is some way we may be able to work together.

Successful entrepreneurs understand that networking is a two way street. It is never all about you. You must always be on the lookout for opportunities that may help your connections. Always! Basically, by giving business to other individuals in business, you will ultimately get business back. Does that make sense? This may sound trivial but this is a huge reason people give up. They run out of appointments and people to talk to because they always ask and rarely give. What someone else has to offer is as important to them to share with you as your business is to share with them.

Collaborating with other like minded business owners is crucial in order for your business to prosper. Collaboration is the sharing of a mission, vision, resources, and goals. It is voluntary, based upon one or more common goals, values, needs, or interests. It is two or more people working on a common goal and purpose that will  benefit one another. Working together can lead to competition channeled in the right situation can help individuals to stretch themselves and excel.

Are You Really Ready For Change?

change

Are your really open to change? Do you believe you need to change? Are you coachable?

Everything depends on making a decision. Why not get your mind right and start from where you stand. Pick one thing, the most important thing, you need to work on to change that will help you to do better this year. How do you view change? Is your glass always 1/2 full or is it 1/2 empty? Having a positive outlook on everything you do, especially how you view change, is key. Here are a few tips to help you embrace change and step in to your power in 2016!

  1. Affirm your values – Recognize and remind yourself what is most important to you. What are the qualities that make you who you are? What do you need to work on this year? What is the one thing you could focus on right now that would create the greatest benefit for your business? Choose what makes the most sense to pursue now and take action.
  2. Invest in yourself – Working on yourself can be the single most important thing you can focus on this year. Investing is money and time spent that in the future will pay you back more than you put out. Make it a point to read/listen to personal development books, workshops, webinars etc. for a minimum of 1 hour per day. You can listen in the car, while you clean your house, while you take a bath. Just fit it into your daily routine.
  3. Use Positive Affirmations –  An affirmation is a positive statement about what we want to anchor in our minds. For example: I am open to accepting ALL forms of abundance the universe has to offer me. The purpose of saying this affirmation out loud every morning when you wake up and every night before you go to bed is going to help us attract more of what we want in our lives. Write it down as you say it and keep it with you where you can see it all day. I keep it taped on the bottom of my computer in my office and posted across my desk calendar. I also drive around a lot so I have it on my dashboard.
  4. Find a mentor – Your success is in direct proportion to the people you spend the most time with. Finding a mentor will help navigate your course a little bit better and maybe a little bit faster. You need someone who will be able to point out what you need to work on and will give you advice based on their experiences to help you avoid the pitfalls they may have had to deal with on their journey.

We will always have to be willing to change in order to grow. Throw yourself into new experiences, network and connect with new people. When we challenge ourselves it keeps taking us out of our comfort zone. Small changes and disciplines that you will practice on a daily basis will help you to “Step in to Your Power in 2016.” All of us can all have an amazing year if we are willing to change.
