Meet Caryn Ross at ETTWomen’s Annual Conference: The Power of Connections, 2019

“The Aha Ignitor” Caryn Ross will lead a workshop at ETTWomen‘s Annual Conference: The Power of Connections, 2019!

Caryn Ross was born in New Jersey and obtained her BBA in marketing and MBA in Finance from Pace University, New York. Caryn is also the CEO and Founder of SpectaBridge Solutions and a certified life coach with a demonstrated track record of success in presentations, leadership mastery and impactful communications.

Early in her career, as a manager within the Macy’s executive training program, Caryn developed a keen appreciation for the role partnership and relationship play between clear communications and excellent business results. It was then that she realized the importance of the human element in running stellar businesses. That early astuteness drove her to work for two major fortune 500 companies training technology C-suite executives on how to succinctly present budgets, financial issues and corporate goals. Then she then parlayed all those skills into a position as an Adjunct College Professor for three universities where as one of the first instructors in the online world, she pioneered online teaching for various business courses at the University level.

Caryn’s strong drive for personal development and leadership skills, as well as her personal charisma and deep rooted academic and work experiences in coaching and training is what has shaped and developed her growth mindset approach towards communications and teaching others how to manifest what they want most. She knows that in order to have unlimited change and growth, the secret is to unstick the six inches between one’s ears. Her own success is rooted in her engaging enthusiasm, total professionalism, and confidential insight in providing the direction required to initiate and sustain excellence – in any kind of performance.

Caryn creates value added tools and strategies that consistently inspire audiences to take action, improve client experiences, enable impactful connections and empower leadership mastery. She always applies a big dose of dynamic holistic principles to all of her interactive presentations.  Audience members always leave her keynotes and workshops reveling in their own Aha moments and excited to apply what they have learned.

New Year, New Goals! 10 Productivity Tips to Help You Get $#!t Done!

It’s officially back to the grind. Kids go back to school (Hell. To. The YES!) and -naturally- we feel that we will get back to our groove. We’re fired up, it’s a new year…let’s roll!

But, how do you prioritize? How do you decide which goal or task to tackle first?

Truth: A key differentiator between people who succeed in their business and those who do not is personal productivity. Leaders and entrepreneurs who are consistently making things happen know how to achieve what they want in less time than others. American Express Forum details what highly successful entrepreneurs do every day.

I was pleasantly surprised at learning that many of these tips are already a part of what we teach at ETTWomen, I wanted to share them with you again so you keep them top of mind.

There’s a lot to be learned from the tactics of successful, and incredibly busy, individuals on how to better organize our own days. Here are 10 things you can start doing today:

  1. Pick 1 task to focus on. One thing many successful entrepreneurs have in common is the ability to focus on what matters most. Pick one thing and do that one thing.

  2. Block out distractions. Period. Martina Navratilova says, “I concentrate on concentrating.” If you don’t have the willpower to be self-accountable, try Rescue Time. It is an application that runs in the background of your computer and measures how you spend your time so you can make better decisions.

  3. Set a strict time limit on meetings. In general, people don’t need as much time as they ask for. Meetings can be time vampires. So, be cut-throat when it comes to managing your time so you can focus on high value tasks.

  4. Set up productivity rituals. Many of  you know I swear by waking up earlier than most consider normal. You also know that because of this, there are tasks that are done by 6am. Therefore, setting up rituals that automate behaviors, make us more productive – without depleting our energy reservoir. 4am may not be your cup of tea, but force yourself to prioritize so that you know that you will finish at least that one critical task during the period of the day when you have the most energy and the fewest distractions.

  5. Get up earlier. Research shows that mornings can make or break your day. Use the mantra “mind over mattress” to motivate yourself to get out of bed to pursue your goals.

  6. Outsource personal chores. Highly productive people are selective about how they expend their energy. They don’t waste time or energy on tasks that others can do. Do a cost/benefit analysis of how you spend your time and see if it’s worth offloading some repetitive tasks so you can focus on what will bring value to your company.

  7. Increase your effectiveness through technology. There’s a plethora of programs to make a small-business owner more effective in increasing productivity. A few popular tools—some of which are free—include Dropbox to store files online; Any Meeting to host a webinar and Hootsuite or Buffer to schedule your social media postings.

  8. Don’t say yes to every request. Most of us have a deep need to be liked. That translates into us saying yes to everything – which is the end of your elite productivity.

  9. Stop multi-tasking. New research confirms that all the distractions invading our lives are rewiring the way our brains work. Be one of the rare-air few who develops the mental and physical discipline to have a mono-maniacal focus on one thing for many hours. It’s all about practice.

  10. Learn from others. Understand that for you to move to your next level of success, you must be in constant student mode. Whether you’re learning from others, attending school, reading books, attending seminars or taking a course, you have to gain access to the information you don’t know so you can get to where you want to be.

Your productivity is your life made visible. Protect your time, your energy, your business, your life.

Do You Have a Business or a Hobby?

It was about 9 years , while answering questions about PR and what other things I could or should be doing to promote my jewelry business and products, that it became clear to me as a craftsperson that I wasn’t thinking about what I was doing as a “business”.

I was very into what I was creating and producing, but the thought didn’t go much past making enough items to sell at this fair and others. It seemed like many of my fellow crafters were on the same boat.

We had no concept about proper pricing or “scalability”. Talking to anyone about a niche market was like speaking Russian because I didn’t know who my target market was, much less to whom I was selling to. I like many of my creative friends, didn’t even know that to grow our businesses, we needed to think this way.

I realized that there has to come a time – and hopefully it’s early in the process- where the decision will be made whether your venture is going to be a business or a hobby.

If it’s a hobby, no need to read further as no more thought needs to go into it – cost of goods, ROI, PR & marketing – none of it matters. The creative person will get a lot of pleasure out of making an item and that will be their reward – they’re not trying to make a living out of it. They’ll sell a few things and give their friends and  family lots of great presents.

But if you want your craft to pay your bills, you need to think of it as a business.

It means getting clear about your service or product and what it is, getting clear about who your customer is, making decisions that will move your business forward, and getting the help and advice you need to do all of the above.

Some things to consider:

1. Read some books that give you a good idea about Business Basics.

2. Find a mentor and join a networking organization. Picking people’s brains isn’t enough. You need accountability and support.

3. Get a handle on your PR, marketing and promotion. If people don’t know about you, they won’t know about your product or service, therefore you can’t make money.

4. Find out who your target market is, then build your marketing strategy, media outreach, and events you do around that consumer.

If you’re passionate about what you’re doing you’ll have no problem succeeding. Starting your own business is challenging, mind-bending, and a lot of work. With a positive mindset and a support system in place, you will conquer the world.

Did you turn you hobby into a business? What helped you decide? How has your journey been?

ETTWomen on NBC News

NBC News Anchor Ashley Bellman stopped by ETTWomen‘s Purpose Pillar at the HMHWomenROCK 2018 event at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park New Jersey.

It’s truly magical what a colorful 🎩, 🧣, 👑 and 👓 can bring out in a woman… And it was truly inspiring to witness how mothers and daughters, sisters and friends, besties, co-workers, and dreamers all came for some fun at our Purpose Pillar Photo Booth @ #HMHWomenROCK2018 💡

Some shared their purpose word, others their businesses, some simply a smile … In the end, we all left feeling a little more connected to each other’s stories, courage, and determination to continue to work together.
