You know how Lynette and I always talk about The Power of Connections? A tweet, that’s right..a tweet nearly 5 years ago connected me to this fabulous woman whom today I am proud to call a colleague, supporter and most importantly, a friend. Lynette and I are also proud to call her an ETTWomen!

Dixie Lincoln- Nichols is a former science educator (14 years of Biological science education), a wife, mother, author, lifestyle & women’s wellness connoisseur, the founder of Dixie Bits Bath and Body products.

Just like birthing a child, birthing a book comes with a lot of self-doubt, fear and the occasional morning sickness but once it is done…the exhilarating feeling of accomplishment -specially when your ulterior motive is to serve others.

We spent a powerful weekend with Dixie where we received our signed copy of her latest baby: Inside Outer Beauty – Thriving for Healthy and Beautiful Skin Through the Ages.

Inside-Outer-Beauty-copy-2

“We all want to put our healthiest skin forward, for it is the first thing the world sees. But genetics and the environment can sometimes thwart those well intended plans. For some, great looking skin is inherent. For others it is a task. And still for others it is a down right battle to find the best anti aging cream” Dixie explains.

I have personally battled with difficult skin since I was 13 years old and Inside Outer Beauty examines the principle that healthy and gorgeous skin is a result of well rounded care. This includes a clean diet rich in nutrient-dense foods, a consistent and appropriate skin care regimen, radical self care, and heightened mindfulness and spirituality.

Whether you have normal skin or oily skin, teen skin or mature skin, you’ll find applicable and actionable solutions for your specific skin type, that will help guide you on your journey toward obtaining and maintaining healthy, glowing skin.

Inside Outer Beauty  is available in:

Hardcover at  Barnes & Nobles, Amazon,

Ebook/Ereaders: Kobo.comBarnes & NoblesAmazon

After this journey Dixie adds,”Today I want to encourage you to believe your intentions. Write them down. Tell someone. Put them in the universe. Pray about them, and watch them come to pass.”

I can personally relate to what this path looks like, encourage you to do the same and to enhance your life by delving into Inside Outer Beauty today!

Life…Simplified?

We have all been there…a 60 hour work week, a jam packed schedule, busy, busy, busy…

We are working, parenting, living our lives…and needing {wanting} just a few more hours in the day to get everything done.

Reality check: It is impossible to do it all on your own (but I’m sure you already knew that).

So how can you simplify your life? {Ahem…no magic tricks here}

She created this business for people like us, because she was like us.
We have action-packed lives and mile long to do list. But we value our free time and believe that an extra set of hands, can go a long way.

I have several businesses, 2 kids, a husband and a home to take care of.
Her commitment to supporting me in my everyday whirlwind has given me the ability to focus on the things that really need my attention. Asking for help has dramatically improved my well being: my stress levels are down, I’ve increased my productivity and freed up time to do more of the things I enjoy therefore… I’ve simplified my life.

Hand over your tasks – go off and enjoy your day. It’s that easy!

Clothes You Can Live In!

Over the years, I have collected shoes, bags, accessories, makeup… and then I had kids.

Sweatpants and pj’s took on a whole new meaning. All of a sudden they became my IT pieces to lounge around the house in, work in, go run errands in…sleep in. If you’re a mom, I know you know what I mean.

When you’re running around with a toddler and a baby….the last thing on your mind are 4” heels.

But my approach to clothing had not changed post the kiddos.

I continue to invest in the basics, so I can mix and match pieces…and then spice things up with accessories like triathlon watches.

What did change, however, was how much I craved comfort. However, I was not going to compromise style!

Insert Wendy Manasse and her clothing line Quenchwear here. Her third baby, after years of designing for the ‘perfect body’, she went out on her own. She was determined to design for the real woman. She chose the highest-quality fabric she could find, with just the right amount of stretch to skim the body (instead of cutting into it)… and oh, so comfortable!

She took notes from her multitasking friends: drop off kids at school, morning work out, run to a business meeting or help out at your kid’s school, then hit happy hour with the girls or have dinner at your favorite neighborhood restaurant, and then snuggle up at home with your honey or great book.

The result: Quenchwear. Universal pieces that will take you from the gym to well, anywhere and everywhere!  Plus, you won’t look like you broke a sweat or rolled out of bed in them!

I promise!

She then added all the “under the hood” stuff: ruching, built-in bras and panties, and other little goodies to help you look your best!
Say what?!?!?!?!?

I know. Genius! So Chica, whatever you’re doing, in your ever evolving body and lifestyle, Quenchwear is her solution for looking and feeling great.

Quenchwear is a major sponsor of our Family Wellness & Beauty Day. The line will also be available for purchase. Register here to join us!

PJ feeling, fabulous looking comfort gear you can LIVE in… I am so there! So will you 😉

BULLYING: An ETTMom Shares Her Story

Nothing bring us more satisfaction than giving our members lessons and tools to support their journey in life and business.

Our blogging workshop motivated several of our members to get going on building their online presence. Several have shared their success stories, like One Green Shoe on the Patch; but we bring light to this story in particular from one of our members as we raise awareness on the topic of bullying which she chooses as the first post for her blog.

  • Bullying – The Visible vs the Invisible
I wanted to share how “bullying” can be hidden by our children.
It doesn’t mean you are a bad parent, it just means that you may have taught your child coping skills to help them deal with bullying from school mates. Bear with me as I share some background information..

As a single mom for 14 years who worked full-time trying to provide all of the things that I had when I was growing up and more for my daughter, Belinda. Isn’t that every parent’s wish – to give their child more?  I moved to a double wide trailer in a trailer park in an area that had a good school district, lots of children my daughter’s age and it was affordable.

My daughter was involved in a lot of activities outside of school – first competitive gymnastics, then field hockey then all-star cheering. This was my way of making sure Belinda stayed away from the “wrong crowd”. She went to public school until she was a Sophomore in HS when she asked to be changed to a private Christian school where our Pastor’s family taught and went to school. Her reasons made sense so we juggled the budget and Belinda graduated from Pilgrim Academy – smiling, happy, ready for college & still living in the trailer park. Belinda traveled 13 hours to go college – Western Carolina University. I was heart-broken that she was so far away but after the first semester, she excelled – graduated with honors in the Honors College program.

Here is when the “clueless mom” found out what had really been happening…My daughter is a social worker that loves working with troubled kids. As she was preparing her applications for grad school for her Masters in Macro-Social Work, she had to write some essays as to why she felt she would belonged in this field. Since I am a grant-writer, she asked me to review her essays (like she usually did) to check grammar, etc.

This is when I found out the “horror” of my daughter’s school years….

Belinda recounts many tales of verbal abuse from school mates because we lived in a trailer park that as the years passed became like the “projects” of the Township. She only invited her closest friends back to our house for sleep overs, parties, etc. I never really thought about it since I was working, juggling her activities and making sure that her homework was done. The truth was, very few parents wanted their children to come over because of where we lived – not necessarily our home but the neighborhood. Belinda talks about how people used to call her “trailer trash”. The outside sports activities along with my example of what a strong woman could do is what she attributes to her success. Some called her a “snob” because she was involved in outside sports.  Then when she became active in church, more verbal abuse came.  Some of her friends from the trailer park fell into the lives that people expected – sexually active, lots of unsupervised parties, drugs, alcohol and more. I was blessed, Belinda didn’t do any of that.

Many believe that if I was clueless about the verbal abuse, I would be clueless about everything else…My daughter and I had and still have an amazing relationship.

When I asked her why she never told me, her response “I didn’t want to hurt you because I knew you were doing the best you could. The material things didn’t matter because you were always there for me”. My daughter has amazing attributes – self confidence, speaks her mind (sometimes without tack) and is forever looking to help the underserved youth in her community.  She tells me on a regular basis how she hopes to accomplish all that I have both professionally and personally.

I wanted to share this to let people know that bullying isn’t always visible, it can happen to any child.

As I travel back to our old hometown, I look around and ask my husband – was I that “clueless” about what life was like. His response is always the same – “You did what you had to do to make sure that Belinda had everything she needed even if it wasn’t always what she wanted. As a result, she is a bright, intelligent & confident woman who wants to take on the world to make it a better place”.

Since signing up to be a part of the Family Wellness & Beauty Day for Kickin’ It Kids AntiBullying, God has pressed on my heart to share this story. This is an amazing cause and I truly believe that children who are visibly and “in’visibly” bullied can benefit from this type of program.

Thank you Hope for sharing your story. We applaud your courage.
